Have You Heard?

This Friday night, April 12th, there is a fundraiser being held in Idaho Falls for Brynlee. It will be at the Ammon North LDS Stake Center on 17th Street at 6 p.m. There will be a dinner, a raffle, a silent auction, a bake sale, and I will have the official Kickin' It With Brynlee wristbands and will be taking orders for T-shirts.

Our family has put this event together with the help of some of their very kind and generous friends. We are amazed and overwhelmed by the donations that have come in for this event. Everything from the food for the dinner to a vacation to Cancun, an Ipad, handmade blankets and other goods, scenic airplane rides, gift cards to various places, photo sessions, and themed gift baskets full of great stuff. We hope you can come! We will even try to have Brynlee make an appearance if we can.

So speaking of wristbands and t-shirts. At the fundraiser, you can get these awesome wristbands for a $2 donation. I will also be taking T-shirt orders for a donation of $10 for youth sizes and $12 for adult sizes. These are in-person donation amounts only!

We also have the wristbands and T-shirts available for order on this blog (just click on the tab towards the top of the page) for all of the information. Due to PayPal fees, the donation amount if you order through the blog is $2.50 for the wristband, $12 for youth sizes, $14 for adult sizes. I will have the T-shirt design available soon. We are preordering the T-shirts, so we must have the donation and size information before we place the order. The order deadline is April 17th.

And finally, I thought I would share a little bit about how "Kickin' It With Brynlee" came to be. There is the obvious meaning that everyone can probably guess, which the "It" would be cancer. We are kicking cancer with Brynlee. However, what is probably even more significant, to me anyway, is the reference to Brynlee kicking her legs. When I took Brynlee to the emergency room when her legs had gone lifeless, there was so much talk about if Brynlee was "kicking" her legs. Every nurse, every doctor, every person we saw always asked the same question wanting to know if she could kick her legs or move her legs. It seemed like the word "kick" or "kicking" came up a lot. Fast forward to a few months ago and we are still talking about Brynlee kicking her legs. This time it is referring to when we have her in the walker and we shift her hips and get her leg to move or kick forward. So when I first started this blog, "Kickin' It With Brynlee" seemed to be the natural fit for our situation. Even after this cancer is long gone and we are done with her treatment, "Kickin' It With Brynlee" will still have a significant meaning for us as the rehabilitation and strengthening process for Brynlee's spinal cord injury will be a life-long, daily journey.
