We had our much anticipated appointment with Shriner's Hospital today, and we were not disappointed. The doctor we met with was Dr. Carroll, who is an orthopedic doctor at Shriner's. She also works at Primary Children's. We went to Shriner's hoping that we would be able to get some help with some of the equipment and things that we haven't been able to acquire for Brynlee. Everyone at Shriner's was so very nice, and I kind of wish that Primary's was a little bit more like them. Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of nice people at Primary's, but to me, Shriner's is much more kid and family friendly. I don't know what it was, but I just liked the "feeling" at Shriner's.
Anyway, we had a good visit with Dr. Carroll, and she had us get some new hip and spine x-rays. She was very open to ordering whatever we were interested in getting for Brynlee, including a walker. She wanted us to get a hip brace to help with Brynlee's hip dysplasia. This brace will be worn at night while she sleeps and while she takes a nap. The goal is to get her hip joint deeper in the socket and hopefully prevent further problems with her hips. So this is what Brynlee looks like when she goes to bed now. Comfy, right? At least, it only has to be worn while she sleeps.
And yet another torture device for our child.
We also were able to get her fitted for some new DAFOs for her feet as the ones that we have are getting too small. We weren't able to get in yesterday for the physical therapy evaluation, which we will need in order to get her a walker and any other therapy equipment, but we have that scheduled for Thursday. I knew that we had taken Brynlee to the right place when we were setting up the appointment for the PT evaluation and the lady walked into this room and I could see it was full of all sorts of crutches and equipment in all sorts of sizes. Seeing all of those crutches and things just made me happy. Only a mother in my situation could probably understand why that made me happy, but it did.
And so it never ends.
I'm so thrilled and excited to hear how well Brynlee did during her therapy! I'm so glad you were able to get her in to Now I Can. Shriners sounds like the place that she needs to be. Prayers are being answered all over the place! We love you all and hope you have a great Christmas!! Give Brynlee a big high five from us!
