Monday Brynlee was scheduled for her bone scan. They have to inject some sort of isotope for the bone scan, and she needed to be sedated (as always), so we needed to have an IV started again. I don't think we have ever had so much trouble getting an IV going as we did on Monday. The nurse tried two times in her left hand and quickly decided to call the IV team. Brynlee was more than upset at this point, but they tried the IV in her right hand, which was the hand they used on Friday, and then went for the foot. Finally, after four pokes, the foot worked. They came and injected the stuff and then it was wait time. While we were waiting the nurse practioner came and offered for us to have the MRI scan today immediately after her bone scan as there had been a cancellation. I agreed but then quickly realized that we still had to go to the hospital on Tuesday for her injection for the MIBG scan. We talked it through and decided to go ahead with the MRI on Monday as well and sedate Brynlee for longer on that day rather than sedating her again on Tuesday. So this ended up being a longer day than we expected, but it was really nice to not have to sedate Brynlee today.
The other bonus was that they let us go home Monday with her IV still in. They do not let this happen anymore, but I think everyone felt so bad about how difficult it was to get the IV in on Monday, so they pushed heparin through it to hopefully prevent it from clotting and let us go home with it. So today all fingers were crossed hoping that it would work for the MIGB injection, and it did. They pushed some heparin through again, and so hopefully it will still be good tomorrow for her last scan.
We also had a couple of x-rays today of Brynlee's thoracic spine and her hips, and I can already see her little spine is crooked on the x-rays, so now I have a whole new set of worries to bother myself with. Brynlee did not like having her x-rays taken. I think that is one of the worst things about all of this business is that she is just too little to understand why people are poking her and holding her down and starving her.
