CT Scans

Today Brynlee had her chest and pelvis CTs, and it was probably the hardest day of the three. Brynlee has to drink an oral contrast for the CT, and since she refuses to drink anything except for milk, she had to have an NG tube to get the contrast. In addition, they have to push a different contrast for the chest CT through an IV. Since she doesn't have a "Power Broviac," she has to have the IV and they can't push it through her Broviac. Anyway, you would have thought that the NG tube would have been the most difficult part of the day, but it wasn't. The NG tube was not fun by any means, but the IV proved to be the challenging part today. We decided to try to put the IV in her foot since she has diminished feeling in her lower extremities. The nurse tried both feet but could not get the IV in either one, so they finally went for the hand and it worked. However, these things made for a rough day.

The funniest part of the day was after the CT when Brynlee was high on Ketamine, and she was hilarious. The Ketamine didn't put her to sleep today, it just drugged her up enough to make her hold still. In recovery, she was chattering away (very loudly), and she refused to put her arms down. I know I have said it before, but Ketamine must be a trip. The nurse told me that a lot of the older kids hallucinate and are pretty crazy on the Ketamine.

Before we left, we got our radioactive isotope injection for the MIBG scan that is happening tomorrow. One more day of scans, and we meet with the doctor. I am hoping and praying that we can get some answers tomorrow from the doctor and that we don't have to play the waiting game like we did last time.
