We have two upcoming events for two of our favorite charities, and we need your help!
The first event will take place on Saturday, August 3rd at Station Park in Farmington. This is for the HopeKids Wasatch Adventure 1-mile walk or 5K walk/run. Why do we love HopeKids, and why should you help us to support them??? Well, Brynlee is a HopeKid, and through this wonderful organization our family has been able to attend very fun (and free) events. Everything from movies to craft and game nights to the zoo to a wonderful Christmas party. When you have a child with cancer, it is really easy to shut yourself into a closet and away from the world. Through HopeKids we have been able to get out and do things without the need to plan or the need to pay. Our children absolutely love going to HopeKids events. These events have given us something to look forward to even when we really didn't have anything to look forward to. We love HopeKids, and this is our opportunity to give back and help them continue to provide activities to families like ours.
So I am asking for those who would like to join us that day and walk with us and/or for donations to this wonderful organization. Last year's walk was super fun. Before the walk, there were Disney Princesses, bounce houses, games, and crafts. During the walk, we picked up backpacks, treats, coupons, and at the finish line we enjoyed some food samplings, some face painting, and they also had a raffle with some great prizes. To donate and/or join our Kickin' It With Brynlee team, please go to HopeKids Walk Donation/Registration. We hope to see you there!
The next event is on Saturday, October 5th at Sugarhouse Park in Salt Lake. This is the Salt Lake City CureSearch Walk. All of the money raised from this event directly goes to childhood cancer research. We need new and better treatment for childhood cancers. Childhood cancer research is so severely underfunded. Organizations like the American Cancer Society only give 1% to childhood cancer research. This is why we support CureSearch as all of this money raised at this walk directly goes to childhood cancer research. 7 of the 35 children diagnosed with pediatric cancer each day will not survive. We think that needs to change.
So, please join us. I am asking for everyone who reads this blog to join our team and donate $10. You do not need to be in Salt Lake to join because you can join our Kickin' It With Brynlee Team as a virtual walker. The cost to be a participant in this walk is only $10. Children under 16 can join for absolutely free, so please make sure to sign them up as a walker too. Please go to this link CureSearch Walk Donation/Registration and sign up either as a virtual walker or an in-person walker but make sure to find our Kickin' It With Brynlee team to join. We would love to have you come and join us as we honor Brynlee and all of the other children who are being treated or have been treated for cancer at PCMC or who have lost their cancer battle this past year.
And, finally, Brynlee is still doing great. We had the opportunity to participate in Millie's Princess 5K Run/Walk this past Saturday. Millie unfortunately lost her battle to cancer less than two weeks ago, and I was so glad that we could do this event to honor Miss Millie and also to show our love and support for two of our other cancer-fighting friends and their families who benefitted from this year's event. What an incredible legacy this little girl has left! I hope this event goes strong for many more years to come!
After this event, we headed to Scheel's to try and find Brynlee some gloves for her to wear with her wheelchair. We have been worried about her hurting her hands on the wheels of her wheelie, so we picked up some biking gloves for her to use to hopefully help protect her hands. She loves getting out in her wheelie. I'm sure she must feel a little bit of freedom being able to get around on her own for the first time in her life.
